She has older brother Brandon Antonino Giovanni Smith and older sister Toni Gasson-Smith, who were both born in Jamaica.

She joined Gaithersburg High School, graduating from the same. After that, she attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated in 2008.
She began to work as a banker in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was introduced to musician Pharrell Williams with the help of her father after a N.E.R.D. concert, who convinced her to move to Los Angeles to become a model.In 2009, she then moved to Los Angeles where she began to model for numerous brands.
